Risk Management & Risk Based Testing

Managing risks has always been a key and a major success factor in projects. “Not taking a risk, is taking the biggest risk!”, and implementing a good risk management process is critical to support a business or a project in today's fast demanding business and technological environment.

Risk based testing, is just one aspect of risk management, and is as important to handle it uniquely designed for testing purposes.

Understanding risk types of a project, knowing how to identify them – project, process and product – and how to manage them correctly, and get decisions done in the right way following those risks might impact a lot the success of a project.

Risk management and risk based testing are often linked first to how we manage the project, or how we manage the test cases repository (if risk based testing is involved), and estimate our testing efforts. in our solution, we recommend how to adjust them, to reach a better use of the risk management or risk based testing going forward.

Risk Management –

We typically analyze the environment, product, and process used currently, as well as the tools available or possible for running such a process, and suggest an implementation plan together with an implementation support plan for introducing a better risk management to the project.

We suggest how to perform the risk identification, risk analysis and risk monitoring & control during the project lifecycle, and assist in implementing it with the teams and management, as well as how to reflect back on the risk assessment criteria in use.

When working in an agile environment, we recommend a lean process for managing risks on Epic and User story levels, and how to factor those in when running effort estimation both in pre-planning and planning meetings, and how to track those during sprints and releases.

Risk Based Testing –

We typically analyze the release and product environment, including the processes and tools related to planning, designing and executing tests for a product, and suggest an implementation plan combined with an implementation support plan for introducing risk based testing to the project.

Risk based testing is linked to the way we run the project testing phases - from planning, designing and up to executing the tests. We suggest a lean way of integrating risk based testing into the projects’ existing lifecycle and processes, build up templates for following us, recommend how to integrate the risk based testing into existing tools for managing the testing.

Our solution includes a methodology, process, templates, and operational activities, integration recommendations, coaching on know-how to both teams and management. We also define criteria to evaluating the risks assessments done by the project on-going.
